Research experiences for undergraduates have become ubiquito us in mathematics and participation in such programs is used as a tool to measure graduate school readiness by many graduate programs. Yet many prog rams have not addressed the needs of students who have been historically e xcluded from mathematics so that they may thrive in these summer programs. This workshop will provide the tools to assist with mentoring underrepres ented and minoritized students in mathematics. We invite REU directors and faculty research mentors\, preference will be given to faculty teams invo lved in summer 2021 summer research programs\, to attend the sessions wher e we discuss building supportive communities of scholars\, the science of mentoring\, as well as a summary of lessons learned from NSF CORE grant on supporting students of color in the mathematical sciences.

\nThe main objective of ADJOINT is to provide opportunities for in-person research co llaboration to U.S. mathematical and statistical scientists\, especially t hose from the African Diaspora\, who will work in small groups with resear ch leaders on various research projects.
\nThrough this effort\, MSR I aims to establish and promote research communities that will foster and strengthen research productivity and career development among its particip ants. The ADJOINT workshops are designed to catalyze research collaboratio ns\, provide support for conferences to increase the visibility of the res earchers\, and to develop a sense of community among the mathematical scie ntists who attend.
\nThis program will enhance the mathematical and statistical sciences and its community by positively affecting the researc h and careers of African-American mathematical and statistical scientists and supporting their efforts to achieve full access and engagement in the broader research community.
\nA pplications for the 2021 Summer ADJOINT program are now open. The 2021 pro gram takes place June 21 – July 2\, 2021 in Berkeley\, California.
\nLatinx in the Mathematical Sciences Conference (Latmath)
\nLatmath showcases the achievements of Latinx in the mathematical scie nces. The conference aims to encourage Latinx to pursue careers in the mat hematical sciences\, to promote the advancement of Latinx\, to showcase re search conducted by Latinx\, and to build a community around shared academ ic interests.Activities include research talks\, panel discussions\, stude nt poster sessions\,and pre-conference activities for undergraduate and gr aduate students.
\nConference date: March 4-6\, 2021
