‘MEET and SHARE: a mathematicians’ storytelling event’

Description:

During this storytelling event, we hope to bring together mathematicians from all career stages and connect with one another through personal stories. The program will be hosted by Dr. Silviana Amethyst and feature stories of 6 storytellers. This event will not be recorded in order to create an intimate space. The theme of this year is ‘Does Not Imply‘. Everyone is welcome to submit stories!

Organizers:

This event is organized by the Coalition for the Amplification of Historically Excluded Mathematicians (CAHEM), which consists of the Center for Minorities in the Mathematical Sciences, Lathisms, Mathematically Gifted and Black, and Meet a Mathematician. This event is funded by the NSF CAREER Grant DMS–2046889, PI: Priyam Patel.

When and Where:

This event will occur at the Joint Mathematics Meetings 2024 (Foothill A, Marriott Marquis). It will happen Thursday, January 4, 2024, at 8:00 PM Pacific Standard Time.

Submit a Story:

Anyone is invited to submit a story to present at the event! If you wish to submit a story, please mark “yes” or “maybe” on the google form below. You will then receive a google drive link to submit your story (with instructions).

You may submit either an audio file or a written document. Stories should be between 6-8 minutes long. For more tips on how to write a story, please see this page from The Moth.

The deadline to submit stories is November 25th, 2023.
